The entries at this years Brit Insurance Design awards pushed the boundaries of convention to produce some stunning examples of modern design. Nominated by a group of internationally respected design experts, curators, critics and enthusiasts, the shortlist is a prestigious place to be!
The brightly coloured entry of Adam Goodrum's 'Stitch Chair' certainly captures your attention, and was enough to win the Sydney-based designer a contract with esteemed Italian brand Capellini. The clever construction allows the chair to be completely flattened in a matter of seconds.
A personal favourite is the gravity defying Stack by Shay Alkalay. This unmissable creation challenges our perception of what a chest of drawers can be. The 'floating' drawers are made in different sizes, and can actually be pushed and pulled in both directions which results in the creation of a spectacularly sculptural form.
The winner of the Furniture Design group? The MYTO cantilevered plastic chair from Konstantin Grcic, which through rigorous experimentation and research may be on its way to becoming a design classic…
